Sailfish Under Kites Baits Caught On Drone

In this video, we had just got up our kites and had the baits out. I sent up the drone and we saw that we had a sailfish in the spread immediately!

Lady Angler Catches Nice Kingfish In Big Seas On Drift Boat

The big seas didn't stop our anglers from getting in on a hot kingfish bite this week. Our female angler did a great job catching her first kingfish on conventional tackle from start to finish.

Wreck Fishing For Amberjacks Off Fort Lauderdale
We had a great couple of guys today from New Jersey whom put the heat on some big amberjacks off the wreck. It's not easy getting this big fish out of the structure, but our angler did great sticking it to them early in the fight. Once you get them about 20 feet above the wreck, you still have to apply constant pressure but you are not in danger of breaking them off. Great catches! Using Radar To Find Frigate Birds and Mahi
Our SeaVee 34' is rigged with radar to help us find birds mainly when tuna fishing in the Bahamas, however today we used it to find birds to put us on some mahi. With a little skill and luck the radar put us on 2 frigate birds. We followed them for about 15 minutes before spotting this mahi. With a quick pitch of a threadfin herring, we got the fish to eat and the fight was on. Using medium tackle spinning gear, a 5/0 circle hook and 30lb flurocaborn we got the fish boat side only to have our mate miss a perfect gaff opportunity on the port side of the bow. Luckily we had another shot soon thereafter and closed the deal. What a beautiful fish under amazing conditions here off Fort Lauderdale. Types Of Livebait In Fort Lauderdale
Here are some of the live baits we use in Fort Lauderdale.
Threadfin Herring are one of our favorites for kite fishing. While they don't hold up very well in a bait pen for several days, they are great when fished freshly caught. We get them around Miami Beach year round. It is key to bridle these baits as we said they are not super hardy and also it helps with a better hookset. We generally use 5/0 circles on thread fins depending on the site of the bait.
Mullet are pretty awesome and underrated baits and available year round here with an abundance in the Fall and Spring. They are great when fished dead on the bottom for snook and tarpon, and we also strip them and troll on planers for kingfish and several other species. As a live bait the kingfish love them in about 100 feet of water. Make sure to fish a stringer hooker as a lot of the time the bites are short and miss the circle in the lip.
Pilchards are some of our favorite however they are getting to be hard and harder to get in this area. We do get them good if we chum on the anchor balls right outside of Dania Beach. It is best to sabiki the big ones if you are going to store them in a bait pen. They live quite well and are great on a kite. Because they are a bit light in weight, add some weight just above your kite marker to make sure they stay in the water on windy days.
And onto the favorite around here, Goggle Eyes. You won't find a more sought after bait. We either fish for them when they are abundant out of our inlet or we support our local live bait fishing businesses and buy them to save us the time. Some nights you may only catch a few, but other nights you may catch over 100. A goggle on a kite is awesome as it is constantly working and splashing, drawing a lot of attention.

Corporate Event Fishing Charter Releases 2 Tarpon
We had an awesome group of guys today that did a full day offshore charter as well as a night tarpon trip. The sportfishing offshore was excellent with lots of mahi in close. Coming inshore at night, the mullet run was still in full force and we found some big tarpon. We got the leader on 2 big fish for a nice catch and release. Tiger Shark Caught Off Fort Lauderdale Beach
While fishing off Fort Lauderdale, we had this tiger shark eat one of our baits on a ballon. We got the fish to the boat very quickly and wanted to get to a tag and release to help protect these species and study them. The fish cooperated towards the end and we got a nice release on her. Junior Angler Catches Tiger Shark On $45 Drift Boat
There are no fences offshore. Sharks roam the shallows and our young angler did a great job hooking and catching this beautiful tiger shark that was tagged and released. We also caught some big kingfish. There are massive schools of ballyhoo on the reef now making the fishing absolutely excellent. Now is the time to get going.

The Hot Mahi Mahi Bite Continues In Fort Lauderdale
On our shared sportfishing trip this morning we found a hard edge where the blue water met the green water. The mahi were red hot on the backs of flying fish and big schools of ballyhoo. It wasn't long before we got our bites and had 3 fish in the boat. We decided to look for big grouper and amberjacks on the wreck and got lucky on our drop with a big amberjack. Our anglers did great!

The winds picked up so we loaded the boat with our kite fishing gear and Goggle Eyes for bait. We came up on an edge with some nice bluewater and saw some sailfish tailing down sea. It wasn't long before we got our baits in front of them and the action was on. I hope you enjoy this video.
Captain Jimmy & Anglers On Wide Open Kingfish Bite
The Lois Ann set sail 3 times today and each trip was better than the previous one. Although the seas were a bit choppy, there was plenty of current funneling the fish right to us. We caught kingfish all day along with bonitos and some cero mackerels. Using sea witches with mullet strips has been the best bait.

The fishing today was awesome once again. We found mahi on the backs of the large ballyhoo schools. There has been no shortage of frigate birds giving away their location. Find the birds and you will find the fish. Don't be afraid to get out of the green water even if it stretches out to 500 feet.

Fishing 2 Kites For Sailfish Off Fort Lauderdale
Using kites when fishing for sailfish is the most effective way to catch them. By suspending baits on top of the water using the kite, you conceal the leader and hook from the fish increasing your chances big time. In this video our mate and captain, Sean puts out 2 kites with a mixture of Goggle Eyes and Threadfin Herring. As our anglers get hooked up you will notice he is able to keep the other baits in the water while trying to go for doubles, triples and even quads. On this day, we also had some kingfish, bonita and tuna come up in the spread. Since we don't use wire leader for sailfish, occasionally we will look toothy fish that bite through the leader.

Fort Lauderdale Fishing Report
The fishing has been quite good. The story remains with a hot kingfish bite and the recent cold fronts bringing sailfish and more mahi. This has to be the best mahi fishing in over 5 years. If you find birds or debris, they are all holding mahi like they should.
The drift boat has seen some awesome kingfish bite as well using planers and sea witches.
Now is the time to book your kite fishing trips for sailfish as we have dates open in November and December.

How To Catch Black Grouper & Amberjacks On Deep Water Wrecks
Wreck fishing is a very productive method to target fish that hang on the deep water wrecks, however having the right rig is vital to catching these giants. We have had a good run this season on black grouper and this is the rig we have been having great success with. Using live blue runners on this rig has yielded in perfect corner of the mouth hooks sets using 9/0 circle hooks.
